November 12, 2008
Ryan Strickland was voted in to take over the President's position, Tina Shanks as Treasurer, and Richard Reese as a board member. Clint Jackson will remain equipment manager and Dennis Hatcher as the President for the HRC side of the club.
July 12, 2008: A special thanks to Roy Barber, Phil and Darlene Beutel, Mike Oppegaard, Scott Culbreath, Dennis Hatcher, and ECHRC member
Dennis Banks for all their hard work clearing the berms at the new ponds today. About 5 hours of work was done and nearly 2/3 of the berms got cleared to the point
that the ponds can be used for training. More work will be done throughout the summer to make sure they are ready to use for the fall hunt test. Access to the ponds will
through the use of a lockbox on the chain currently across the path. Hope to get a gate up soon. If you would like acccess, email Dennis Hatcher for the code to the lockbox.

June 6, 2008: The club now has access to 4 or 5 ponds on grounds that the Nature Center recently acquired. We will be able to put up a gate to keep people out. The banks around the ponds and the berms have weeds and bushes that need to be trimmed or cut down to maximize their use. We are in need of members to come down and have a work day. Saturday, July 12 has been suggested as the workday. If you are able to come, please contact Dennis at neusiokgoldens(at)suddenlinkmail(dot)com. Dennis will also be contacting ECHRC to see if they will come help out. Doughnuts and coffee will be provided Saturday morning and lunch will be provided by the club. Water and sodas will also be on hand.
Feb. 9-10, 2008: The HRC Hunt Test held in Kinston was a success. The club made a few dollars from the event.
Club members, Claud Bright III finished the weekend with 4 started passes, Jason Adams and his dog "Gunner" earned their Started Title, and Scott Culbreath and his dog
"Peat" earned their HRCH Title. Congratulations to all.
September 24, 2007: The results of the Down East Hunting Retriever Club Hunt test that was held in Kinston, NC on Sept 22- Sept 23, 2007 can be seen at entryexpress.net. Congratulations to all of the winners. Thank you to all of the members and non members who made this event possible. We express our Gratitude to the City of Kinston and the County of Lenoir, and also to the FFA bird boys and David Mooring who did a fabulous job as usual.
If you would like to train at the Neuse Nature Center please check in at the Visitors Center and let them know that you are there. There is no fee but please pick up the trash.
August 2, 2007: Latest pics. We had to do a design change due to running into buried debris, concrete, steel, bricks , etc. Looks like someone used the leftside for a construction debris landfill at some point in time. Did find a couple of nickels dating back to 1942.
In the design gif the round circles will be mounds to run off of.
The last day or so has been spent just moving dirt around with the dozer.

July 23, 2007: Construction on the public training grounds in Kinston has started.
The 35+ acre site will feature land, a swimby pond and a series of canals( see attached) that connect to a large pond. Future plans will include a shelter and bathrooms adjacent to the paved parking lot.
Club members helped design the canals system to make best use and stay within the budget.
The property was given to the county after the flood-buyouts. The club applied for and received a 4000.00 grant from Kinston-Lenoir County Convention and Tourism to help jump start the project. The club has also made a donation along with a couple of individuals.
DEHRC made donations after holding 3 hunt test and an AKC Judges Seminar in Kinston at no cost to the club for use of the grounds and facilities.
We are hoping to have the grounds ready for use by our September Hunt Test.

The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
